LITTLETON - Ken Bowles of Whitefield and Casey Horner of Littleton are the 2001 recipients of the annual Rena Hood/Bartlett McKinney Memorial Scholarships for higher education awarded to daughters or sons of Littleton Coin Company employees.
Ken, son of Patricia and Hubey Smith, is a 2001 graduate of White Mountain Regional High School and will be a freshman at Stonehill College in Massachusetts this fall. He will major in the arts. Casey, son of Brian and Joan Horner, is a 2001 graduate of Littleton High School. He will begin his freshman year at the University of New Hampshire this fall, and will major in computer science.
The two annual $1,000 scholarships are given in memory of two longtime employees of Littleton Coin who made major contributions to the success of the firm from its beginning, and who were keenly interested in community service and education. Rena Hood was instrumental in developing the mail-order company’s nationwide reputation for personal service to collectors. Bart McKinney was general manager of the firm from 1948 to 1986, after a career in education which included serving as principal of Littleton and Whitefield High Schools.
